IRENE:       You two think you’re so perfect, don’t you?

OWEN:       What do you mean?

PAUL:        It’s never enough for you to be happy. Oh no!

IRENE:       You’ve got to be happier than everyone else.

BETH:        What are you – ?

Beth and Owen try to get up, but are held down by their shoulders.

PAUL:        Always Beth this...

IRENE:       And Owen that...

PAUL:        “Oh, Beth’s so talented”...

IRENE:       “Oh, Owen’s so handsome”...

PAUL:        “Aren’t our jobs fulfilling?”…

IRENE:       “Aren’t our children wonderful?”…

PAUL:        “Darling, we’re so deeply in love”...

IRENE:       “Sweetheart, we were born to be together”…

They lean over Beth and Owen menacingly.

PAUL:        Don’t you ever stop to think...

IRENE:       How miserable other couples might be?

PAUL:        Like us, for example?

IRENE:       Well, don’t you?

Beth and Owen are speechless.

PAUL:        No, of course not!

IRENE:       Why should you?

PAUL:        You’re too wrapped up in your own...

IRENE: }    (Together) Perfection!

PAUL:  }
